Colorectal cancer is a type of cancer that is located in the colon or rectum. However, depending on where the cancer starts, determines the diagnosis.
Type of Colorectal Cancers
The development of colon cancer (bowel cancer) typically occurs when noncancerous (benign) polyps, a cluster of cells, form inside the colon. If polyps become cancerous, they affect the large intestine (colon), which is part of the lower digestive tract.
Rectal cancer is similar to colon cancer, however, it mainly affects the last few inches of the colon. Symptoms may include bowel changes, blood in stool, fatigue, and abdominal pain.
