Longview, Texas – In recognition of his leadership, community service, and charitable conviction, CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health System President and CEO, Todd Hancock, has been named the 2022 Distinguished Citizen by the East Texas Area Council Boy Scouts.
“Our award is given each year to someone who embodies the values of Scouting, especially those found in our Scout Law and Oath – ‘to help other people at all times,’ ‘do my duty to God and my country,’ and ‘be loyal, brave, and kind,’” said Daniel Anderson, COO for East Texas Area Boy Scouts. “Todd Hancock’s nomination and selection align perfectly with this intent.”
The ceremony, held at Pinecrest Country Club, featured past honorees in attendance - Judge Bill Stoudt, Linda Thomas, Keith Honey, Mike & Carolyn Northcutt – and hosted more than 250 community members, leaders, and healthcare representatives.
“As honored as I am to be recognized, what this award really represents is a recognition of the work of many in this room and how essential a strong healthcare system is to the very foundation of our community,” Hancock said.
Hancock becomes the first CHRISTUS Associate to receive the award in 20 years, following longtime CHRISTUS executive, Lindsey Bradley. The Scouts praised Handcock’s leadership and guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Scouts also pointed to Hancock’s support of their organization, and others, like Greater Longview United Way, Longview 20/20, and the Chamber of Commerce.
Hancock said CHRISTUS and the Scouts share many of the same values.
“To be recognized for playing even a small role in our mission is a true honor,” said Hancock. “Leaders like Lindsey Bradley have taught me many lessons, the most importing being to never take the vital role we play in the community for granted. We have never forgotten where we’ve come from, that is true both personally and as an organization.”
