CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System celebrated the opening of the newest facility, the CHRISTUS Emergency Center in Texarkana, with a ribbon-cutting and blessing on Tuesday.
“When we stood on this ground 16 months ago, we had a vision of something great,” said Jason Adams, president of CHRISTUS St. Micheal Health System. “To see this facility complete, to know the quality of care it is going to offer, is something I am very proud of, and the community should be proud of as well.”
More than 200 guests got a sneak peek of the 12,000 square-foot facility, which will open to the public at 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 18.
When opened, the CHRISTUS Emergency Center in Texarkana will provide nearly 40 health care jobs for the community and will be staffed by board-certified physicians and nurses who specialize in serving the emergent needs of patients with minor illnesses, broken bones and urgent health conditions including heart attack and stroke.
“As the health care needs of this community grow, we are expanding our services and capacity to ensure area residents have access to the high-quality, faith-based care they have come to expect and deserve,” said Jake Brown, M.D., CHRISTUS Emergency Center in Texarkana medical director.
Construction on the more than $17 million building began in March 2023, the CHRISTUS Emergency Center in Texarkana will serve primarily walk-in patients.
Located at 4250 Gibson Lane in Texarkana, it features 24-hour emergency services with 12 treatment rooms, advanced imaging, and onsite laboratory services for easy access to care.
“Our ministry is built on a tradition of compassionate care founded on CHRISTUS Health mission of extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, established by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1916 in Texarkana,” Adams said. “This is the next step in our commitment to community and investment into growth and technology for the people in a four-state region: Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.”
