Tyler, Texas – Three local chefs will showcase nutritious foods and recipes for the public as part of the “Feed the Fight” culinary event on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Northeast Texas Cancer & Research Institute at CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler.

The event will emphasize the importance of nutrition in the fight against cancer, both before and after diagnosis.

“The body needs nutrition to fight, and keeping the body fueled with healthy, nutrition-rich foods can allow cancer treatments to be more effective by reducing missed or delayed treatments due to side effects,” said Lauren Clark, CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic clinical dietician.

Lance McWhorter of Culture ETX, Mundo Villapudua of Villa Montez, Café Montez, and 1836, along with Caleb Caldwell of Dakota’s will present fast, easy-to-make meals aimed at fighting and improving overall health.

“Just as we all need to add the correct fuel to our car to optimize performance, we need to choose healthy foods to minimize the chances of our body developing diseases like cancer,” said Ashley Parnell, surgical oncology nurse navigator. “This is all about putting our bodies in a position of strength to either prevent cancer or fight it after a cancer diagnosis.”

Each chef will have one hour to set up, prepare their meal, and then breakdown their stations.

The event is open to the public and recipe cards of each meal will be provided.

“Nutrition is a very important aspect of both cancer prevention and fueling the body to help fight during treatment,” Clark said. “We want folks to know that there are foods out there that can lower the risk of cancer and provide very important anti-cancer benefits.”
