May is Trauma Awareness Month: CHRISTUS Health recognizes Holden's journey

Holden Weaver's journey from a trauma patient to a beacon of hope is being highlighted at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline for Trauma Awareness Month in May.
Holden was just 16 when an ATV accident left him with severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and breaks to his femur and patella. He was rushed to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline, where he underwent emergency surgery led by the trauma medical director, Dr. John Adamski.
"We had to collaborate with multiple services in order to get him to the operating room," Adamski said.
He added Holden would not have survived without access to a Level II trauma center equipped with the necessary resources to promptly deliver such care.
Holden's life was saved by the medical team at the leading emergency facility in the Coastal Bend area. Throughout his lengthy recovery, Holden was surrounded by love and support from his family and community. Their unwavering faith helped get him through the most challenging times.
Emotions ran high at a reunion in November that included Holden, his family, friends and the team who saved him. The community and CHRISTUS Spohn associates were inspired by the remarkable recovery journey.
"Y'all are the reason I'm still here today," Holden said. "Y'all are the reason I'm not in the ground. Y'all are the reason I'm alive, so thank you so very much."
Adamski said he is still in awe of Holden’s story."When I see Holden, I see a miracle,” he said.” When I see everyone who worked with Holden, I see miracle workers."
Holden is now 17 and accomplishing more than he and his family could have ever imagined.
Blaine Weaver, Holden's father, acknowledged the incredible impact the community's support had.
"Each one of you has helped us immensely, and we will never be able to repay you," he said. "We love you and thank you for being a part of our journey. It shall continue, and it is very comforting to know that we are not alone."
