CHRISTUS Health has opened a newly expanded clinic in Marshall to address the need for outpatient pediatric therapy in the community, highlighted by a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday.
Located in the Medical Plaza building at 614 S. Grove St., the expanded clinic is more than triple the size of the former space allowing for expansion of both pediatric physical and occupational therapy.
“We have always had a robust therapy program, and it was becoming more and more evident that to meet the needs of our community, we needed to grow. CHRISTUS made that commitment and has invested in the community to meet those needs,” said Kasey Curry, rehabilitation manager for CHRISTUS Good Shepherd – Marshall. “We now have the space necessary for all the therapy programs to work together for the betterment of our patients.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control, one in six children ages 3 to 17 require therapy to address disabilities, which can include developmental, mental or behavioral problems, neurological injury recovery, physical recovery, sensory processing and speech-related diagnoses.
The expanded clinic includes dedicated spaces for each therapy discipline to work with patients. These spaces include rooms for early development skills like reading and writing, sensory space, quiet rooms to address over-stimulated patients, and a large movement gym for treating children with physical ailments or disabilities.
Susan Ward, executive director of the CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Foundation, expressed her gratitude to the community for contributions that led to funding equipment in therapy rooms and the movement gymnasium.
“The foundation is absolutely thrilled to be part of this project,” she said. “This clinic is really a celebration of hope and healing for children not just in Marshall but from all around.”
Curry said patients must have a provider referral to enter a designated therapy program and that each patient's treatment plan will be customized to their needs.
“Each patient we see requires a different approach to treatment and with our expanded space, we are able to individualize care more than we ever have,” Curry said. “This clinic is a testament to our mission here are CHRISTUS of extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, as well as our commitment to providing resources to our children and community.”
Patients with a referral can call (903) 927-6909 to make an appointment.
