CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth hosted an unveiling and dedication ceremony today to celebrate the newly renovated third floor dedicated to two units: labor and delivery and mother-baby.

Funded by community donors to the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation, both units have been upgraded with state-of-the-art equipment, improving both space and technology for expectant mothers and their families. The labor and delivery unit now features 19 private delivery rooms, each renovated with new bathrooms, birthing beds, fetal monitors, carts, and cableless fetal monitoring systems.

In the mother-baby unit, 34 recovery rooms were updated with new bathrooms, fresh paint, flooring, and advanced monitoring equipment.

“The rooms look incredible and bring an extra layer of comfort with new paint, new floors and new technologies,” said Britni Hidalgo, clinical director of labor and delivery for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth. “I was thrilled when the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation reached out to tell us community donors wanted to contribute to making these renovations possible. We are proud to provide these extensive upgrades and new technologies to care for our mothers and their babies both before and after birth.”

The cableless fetal monitoring systems are a significant advancement for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth, Hidalgo said.

“I think most moms would agree the birthing process is beautiful but can be uncomfortable and more painful if you’re stuck in a bed,” Hidalgo said. “The cableless fetal monitoring system allows moms to walk and move around the room or find more comfortable positions without being tied to a cord and machine.”

The renovations also include updates to seven obstetrics emergency and surgery rooms, designed for additional monitoring of complicated pregnancies and scheduled cesarian surgeries.

“The CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation has been eager to ensure this project came to fruition,” said Teri Hawthorne, executive director for the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation. “We could not have made this possible without the support of our southeast Texas community donors. This donation will have a lasting impact on patients and families, helping us welcome more newborns and send them home safely with bright, promising futures.”
