Meet Araceli Elizalde, MD
Dr. Elizalde received her medical degree from the Universidad Juarez Autonoma de Tabasco in Tabasco, Mexico. She completed her residency at University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her fellowhip in Allergy and Immunology at the University of South Florida in Saint Petersburg/Tampa, Florida.
Following her fellowship training, Dr. Elizalde was in a local clinical practice in San Antonio and active in clinical research as a Principal and Co-investigator on a number of industry-funded outpatient allergy clinical trials. In 2014, she returned to Academic Medicine in her role as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Baylor College of Medicine at Children’s Hospital of San Antonio (CHofSA). Dr. Elizalde is responsible for the clinical care of patients with allergic (including asthma) or immune deficits at this facility. She has a special interest in immune deficiency and during her training it is noted the majority of her accepted oral or poster presentations (Clinical Immunology Society 2012, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology 2011, American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology 2011) relate directly to the study and presentation of immune deficient states. She is second author on 2 papers in Journal of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology and Journal of Clinical Immunology.
She serves as a consultant to the State of Texas Department of State Health Services SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency) Newborn Screening Program. She has an active educator role for Baylor College of Medicine in her position at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio. Her interest in teaching is attested by her membership in the Pediatric Board Review Course Committee at CHofSA and her publication in Allergy, ‘Intensive Educational Course in Allergy and Immunology’ from 2012.
