Meet Garrett Hunt, MPH, MD

Dr. W. Garrrett Hunt is the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control. He became a senior faculty member with Baylor College of Medicine-San Antonio in 2022. In addition to pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases, he received training in tropical medicine and hygiene followed by public health, with emphasis on study design and statistics.

From 2004-2022, Dr. Hunt was a faculty member in the Section of Infectious Diseases at Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) / The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine. At NCH/OSU, he was the Medical Director of the Pediatric Tuberculosis Clinic and Clinical Tuberculosis Program from 2013-2022 and Director of Curriculum Development for the Global Health Certificate Program from 2015-2022. Dr. Hunt has served as the on-call TB consultant for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since 2016, Medical Director of the Special Pathogens Unit from 2016-2022, and Program Director for the Travel Health Program from 2002-2022. He earned a diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H).

His areas of interest include tuberculosis and other mycobacterial diseases; immigrant, refugee, and migrant health; global health; emerging diseases; travel and geographic medicine; clinical and epidemiologic research; research mentoring; and medical and clinical education of medical students and residents in the United States and abroad.

Dr. Hunt enjoys long-distance running; reading fantasy, history, and the sciences; cooking; gardening; music; speaking Spanish and Romanian; watching soccer; and traveling with his wife and young son.
