James D. Saar, MD, a plastic surgeon in Tyler Texas, is the Director of the Center for Cosmetic Surgery at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System and the Chief of Plastic Surgery for CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic.
Dr. Saar completed his undergraduate studies at Oklahoma State University where he was presented an Academic Achievement Award, named a Presidential Leadership Scholar, and inducted into a Golden Key, Alpha Epsilon Delta and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Societies.
His medical degree is from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City; he also completed nine years of postgraduate surgical training in Texas. His studies included training at the University of Texas and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, and Texas A&M University Health Sciences Center and Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. His humanitarian work includes volunteering his time and skills in mission work in both Guatemala and El Salvador.
Dr. Saar completed two residences in two surgical specialties at Scott & White. During his general surgery residency, he served as chief resident and became a clinical instructor for the Department of Surgery. During his three-year plastic surgery residency, he conducted research in both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery and presented his research at both state and national scientific meetings.
Dr. Saar was honored to receive the Cronin Award, an award given by the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons for outstanding research. He has been published in the medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. As an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he was elected to serve on the Advisory Council for Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery. The American Medical Association has presented him the Physician's Recognition award for continuing medical education.
Dr. Saar is certified by both The American Board of Surgery and The American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Plastic surgeons who are certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and who members of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons have undergone rigorous training and have been evaluated by their peers on their practice of plastic surgery from both the technical and ethical perspectives.
