Melissa was born and raised in San Antonio. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Genetics with a minor in Psychology from Texas A&M University - College Station. She earned a second degree in Molecular Genetic Technology from UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and completed an internship in New Haven, Connecticut. She attended the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where she obtained her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling. She received clinical training in Little Rock, Arkansas, Louisville, Kentucky, and San Antonio. She joined CHRISTUS Children’s in May 2021.
