About
Dr. Paul Schmitt is a leading expert in neurological surgery and interventional neuroradiology at CHRISTUS, with a focus on vascular and endovascular neurosurgery. He works closely with a team of experts to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to patients 18 and older in the Coastal Bend and beyond. He is renowned for his exceptional surgical skills in treating cerebral aneurysms, carotid stenosis, tumors, and ischemic strokes. He is also an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
As a recognized physician in neurological conditions and surgical procedures, Dr. Schmitt has authored and co-authored numerous books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles on related topics. In addition to his clinical work, he serves as an adjunct assistant professor of neurosurgery at UTMB Health in Galveston, TX. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychological and Brain Sciences, with a minor in Neuroscience, from Dartmouth College. He completed the Pre-Health Program at Rutgers University, obtained his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the University of Virginia School of Public Health.

Strike Out Stroke Night
Dr. Schmitt played a key role during the annual Strike Out Stroke Night on August 8, 2024. The event was held at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas. the home of the minor league baseball team, the Corpus Christi Hooks.
Strike Out Stroke Night, hosted by the Corpus Christi Hooks in partnership with CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, aims to raise awareness about stroke prevention and detection in the community. During the event, stroke survivor Belinda Delgado shared her story of how Dr. Schmittâs expertise saved her life after she suffered a ruptured aneurysm.
As the community gathered to learn about stroke risks and prevention, Dr. Schmitt provided essential tips on managing health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol. His presence at Strike Out Stroke Night highlighted the critical role of medical professionals in both treating and educating the public about strokes, reinforcing CHRISTUS Health's commitment to patient-centered care.
