Philosophy of Care
Dr. McInnerney has a passion for helping people, especially the underserved. Moreover, coming from a non-traditional background, he wishes to demonstrate what focus and hard work can accomplish, and be an example to others in similar situations.
Dr. McInnerney has always enjoyed workign with kids, so pediatric medicine was a natural choice for him. He grew up the oldest child in a single-parent family and was often tasked with looking after his younger siblings. While it was a lot of responsibility, he enjoyed caring for them. He enjoys being a father and considers it an privilege to watch his children grow up. He feels that knowing he can make a positive impact in a child’s life is the most rewarding aspect of medicine.
Clinical Inspiration
Providing reassurance to parents regarding their children is an important part of his job. "Parenthood can be very daunting at times and is an all-encompassing endeavor. Sometimes parents need not only guidance but also reassurance about their child’s health and wellbeing," he said.
He enjoys working with underserved populations. His own mother was an immigrant from Honduras, and he is a first generation college graduate. "I can recall the barriers my family faced as I grew up. It is very rewarding for me to work with kids from disadvantaged backgrounds," he said.
Hobbies & Interests
As a San Antonio native, he is happy to be back in San Antonio after completing his medical education. He and his wife have four children. The family enjoys traveling, snowboarding, experiencing different cultures and trying new delicious foods.
