Program Statement:

The Post-Graduate Year-One (PGY-1) Pharmacy Practice Residency Program builds on prior Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education. This program aims to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and prepared for Post-Graduate Year-Two (PGY-2) pharmacy residency training.

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency Program at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills provides a wide range of clinical experiences, with a focus on inpatient acute care in a community hospital setting. This program is designed to develop strong, competent clinicians and educators who can practice independently in a hospital setting. Rotations with a clinical focus are offered for the resident to gain knowledge of and expertise in pharmacotherapy applicable to various disease states and patient populations.

About the Residency Program:

The program is affiliated with the University of Texas at Austin – College of Pharmacy (UTCOP). The UTCOP Teaching and Leadership Fellows Program (TLFP) is a learning experience provided to residents participating in pharmacy residency programs affiliated with UTCOP. The program provides the opportunity for pharmacy residents to gain fundamental knowledge and skills in teaching, learning, and leadership. Skills obtained can be used when providing medication and practice-related education to patients, caregivers, health care professionals, students, and the general public in an experiential or didactic role. Residents will be required to document growth in teaching skills as well as leadership development throughout the program. The resident will receive a certificate upon completion of the program.
