Meet Matias Nauts, DO

Medical Director, Bariatric Surgery Program

Medical Director, Robotic Surgery

Dr. Nauts performed the first robotic-assisted gastric sleeve surgery at CHRISTUS Ochsner St. Patrick Hospital and is the only surgeon in the region currently performing robotic-assisted weight loss surgery.

He has been serving patients of Southwest Louisiana since 2015 and is board certified in general surgery. He graduated from California State University at Fullerton and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his surgical internship and residency at Rowan School of Medicine in New Jersey. His expertise includes robotic-assisted surgery, bariatric surgery (gastric sleeve, gastric bypass), gallbladder surgery, hernia repairs, hemorrhoid procedures, colon surgery, breast biopsy, breast surgery, cyst excisions, and minimally invasive surgery. He is passionate about robotic surgery and even trains other surgeons on the use of robotic devices. Instead of making large incisions as in traditional surgery, robotic surgery only requires a series of small incisions, which means less blood loss and less scarring. Also, because of the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, patients recover quickly and can usually return to normal activity very soon.
