CHRISTUS Family Medicine Academic Center (FMAC)
The CHRISTUS Family Medicine Academic Center (FMAC) is our family medicine residency outpatient continuity clinic. The fellow has 2 half days per week of clinic at which he/she is scheduled adult patients of all ages, but with an emphasis on the elderly. On Friday afternoons, the fellow performs comprehensive geriatric assessments for complicated patients referred by residents and faculty.
CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline
The fellow performs consults on patients on the Family Medicine in patient service at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline. This facility is the major teaching institution in the region with 432 beds. Other rotations at the hospital include neurology, palliative care and rehabilitation. CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi – Shoreline is the premier hospital in the region with tremendous exposure to a wide variety and large volume of elderly patients with acute and chronic illness, including a busy 50 bed ICU. The hospital is a level II trauma center in the region and residents and fellows work one on one with specialists of all types. Because there are only two core residencies (Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine), the fellow has an exceptional educational opportunity.
Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Corpus Christi
The fellow is responsible for a panel of continuity and skilled nursing patients at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Corpus Christi, a local long term care facility. Faculty round with the fellow at least weekly. The fellow is also involved with teaching family medicine residents in long term care, both on the block rotation and as they care for their continuity assignments. The fellow is a member of the Quality Care Committee and Interdisciplinary Care Team at the facility.
