Wellness

We believe that the well-being of our residents is the cornerstone of a successful and fulfilling medical education experience. We are dedicated to fostering a positive learning culture that supports both the professional and person growth of our residents.

A Resident-Led Wellness Committee

Central to our commitment to wellness is our resident-led Wellness Committee. This dynamic group of residents play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining a culture of well-being throughout our program. Empowered with support from Leadership and a dedicated budget, the committee organizes a variety of wellness activities and events that cater to diverse interests and needs. These initiatives ensure that our residents have ample opportunities to recharge, connect with peers, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Events at Work and Beyond

Understanding the demands of residency, we provide a range of wellness events both within the workplace and in more relaxed, off-site settings. We also encourage taking opportunities to volunteer, engage in the community and give back to our neighbors, as those acts of service and kindness are rewarding to the soul. Community engagement and service is a pillar of the Wellness Committee.

On-Site Activities

Regular mindfulness and relaxation sessions, including yoga at noon on Fridays. Workshops on nutrition, regular exercise, and stress management are provided by professionals. A Thanksgiving Cultural Potluck with the Residents’ Continuity Clinic is always a favorite with the diversity of culinary eats.

Off-Site Activities

The Wellness Committee welcomes our newest residents each June with the Annual Intern Welcome Games. Interns are inducted into House Teams who compete during the year for a Grand Prize, which includes a Friday off in May. Social events either at local hotspots or someone’s house are a regular occurrence. An annual Diwali party has been a not-to-miss event in recent years. Opportunities that allow residents to unwind and build strong support networks away from the clinical environment are a priority for wellness.

We are proud to cultivate a learning environment that values collaboration, respect, and mutual support. Our faculty and staff are committed to mentoring residents, recognizing their hard work, and providing the resources necessary to navigate the challenges of medical training. We believe that a supportive atmosphere enhances learning outcomes and professional satisfaction.

By prioritizing wellness, we ensure that our residents not only thrive in their educational pursuits but also develop the resilience and balance needed to become compassionate and effective healthcare professionals. Join us and experience a residency program where your well-being is as important as your academic and clinical achievements.

The Wellness Committee is under the leadership of Dr. Loui Gatdula, Primary Care, Regional Chair of Wellness, Core Faculty and a Class of 2015 Alumni.
