Program Overview
The CHRISTUS Health/Texas A&M University School of Medicine Program – Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship plays an integral role in the care of our area's high school sports athletes. Fellows can expect to work closely with trainers in our world-class facilities and gain valuable experience and education. The program is one year in length, and we match 2 fellows per year.
The fellowship is located in the great city of San Antonio, Texas! You will quickly find that San Antonio has the small town feel but with all the big city amenities. The city is deep seeded in the wonderful South Texas culture. Many have visited only to become permanent San Antonians.
Our program’s mission is to provide a high-quality and supportive learning environment for sports and exercise-related injuries. Our fellows have hands-on experience across a wide spectrum of patient and sporting levels in a multi-specialty health care network. In addition, CHRISTUS Health is a faith-based and non-profit health care system.
The program aims to:
- Develop evidence-based clinical skills necessary to diagnose and manage acute and chronic musculoskeletal and sports related conditions across all age groups.
- Provide a learning environment for Fellows' procedural techniques related to orthopedics and sports medicine.
- Foster Sports Medicine Physicians who will lead the local community to live active, healthy lives and to provide safe sporting environments.
- Provide real world experience in working with high school and both D1 and NAIA college athletes through game coverage, clinic and training room.
